Can you believe that it is the last quarter of 2016? Time sure flies. Every evening when I get home from the barn I am trying to get some paperwork done so I can stay current and not fall behind anymore. I am finally to a point where I am beginning to look at 2017. We are trying to get a calendar together. I have a client with a mare that is currently on track to futurity in 2017 which is another reason I am already looking at the calendar. I am trying to teach my client that entering futurities is not at all like deciding to load up and go to a weekend jackpot. You need to figure out your futurity schedule months in advance so you can pay all your entry fees on time and not fall behind. Plus, futurity colts are young and new to the game the last thing you want to do is get them hating their job and over running them. If you fail to plan for your futurity season in plenty of time, plan to fail.
I am also starting to look at the 2017 calendar in order to get things ready for our internship program and camps. Since I am at the barn full time now, I am considering starting our internship program as early as March and continuing through mid-October. That way we can give more people the opportunity to come and have the experience of a lifetime. Plus if I know I have help we can take in even more training and consignment horses. If you are interested in more information about our internship, I should have more information posted by the middle of November, and applications will be available starting at the end November.
In 2017, we are hoping to move, we are quickly outgrowing our current facility now that I am working horses full time. We have been looking for the perfect place for a few months now and have it narrowed down to about 3 properties. There will be some changes at the new facility. I hope to have enough space to open a small store and carry feed (since I worked a the feed mill and have tons of expericence with the feed side of things), tack and supplies (we will also be selling items online), and clothing (hopefully some Ranch Dressin!!!) I am so excited about what 2017 holds in store. Do you have any new adventures planned for 2017?
