You Keep What In Your First Aid Kit?

Well my last post told about how I was going to make a new first aid kit for my horse trailer. Well I started packing it the other day, but I will do a complete post on that later this week.  I had a friend of mine with me while I started packing the kit and she asked me several questions about 1 particular item I ALWAYS keep in my first aid kit. So my question to you is what is the oddest thing in your first aid kit? Mine is an awesome product  called pickling lime. That is right pickling lime. The stuff you use to turn cucumbers into amazing pickles is in my first aid kit for the horses. I bet you are thinking why in the world is that in your first aid kit. Well the answer is…it is amazing on open wounds. If you see a boo-boo happen and you catch it right then you can call the vet and get stiches, but after 24 hours most vets say stiches are a waste. This stuff is amazing. All you do is clean the wound and then pack it with pickling lime a few times each day and it will close it right up. Most of the time you can hardly even see a scar, but  it depends on how deep the cut is. This stuff is great. I never go anywhere without it. I have even used it on myself. The photo below is exactly what I keep in my kit. You can find it in the canning section at your local Wal-Mart. Your grocery store may even have it. Please though, if you see something happen or you know it is fresh, call your vet, your animal may need an antibiotic also. But for cuts this stuff works miracles!

Early Christmas

As most of you know, my husband’s family is from Oklahoma. Well Monday night I got a call from my mother in law saying that they had decided to go home for Christmas and that we were going to do Wednesday night at my sister in law’s house. Well I always wait till the last minute to do anything so this sent me into panic mode. I had not bought the first gift yet. Lets just say after Wednesday night, I realize I am growing up!

I got some gifts that I LOVE!!! These same gifts would have royally upset me less that 2 short years ago. I got a EZ Baker Roast Pan. Yes, I have been with my husband for almost 4 years and have never used a roast pan. I guess they are trying to tell me I need to cook for him more often. I am actually excited to find some recipes and try it out. I aslo got a super cute cap, scarf, and glove set. What girl who works outdoors all day can’t use these things? That is what I am talking about when I say I can tell I am growing up. I now like to get gifts are actually serve a purpose. I love my hat and scarf. It is black and white so it will go everything.

Next, my father in law is a super handy guy. He built everyone a custom bird house. I love birdhouses so I thought this was a really neat gift. It is a one of a kind gift and I always love those. Here is a picture of my super cute birdhouse. I can’t wait to get it put up!

Then finally, the gift I love the most was tupperware kitchen storage containers. They are SO cute. They have a purple top so hopefully I won’t lose them if I let some one borrow them. They came as a set. I think I have 50 pieces. The one that all the others are stored in is huge so I have decided to turn it in to the horse trailer first aid kit. I have been looking at my schedule for next year and it looks like we will be spending lots of time on the road hitting the barrel races. I hope to take my old first aid kit out of the trailer and switch it over next week so next weeks post will be about what all should be in your first aid kit.

Aren’t my containers cute! Yet another useful gift!

What all have you gotten so far this year? What are you hoping to get for Christmas? Do you prefer gifts that serve a purpose or is Christmas about getting fun stuff? I would love to hear from you!
